The MontCo Anti-Hunger Network and HealthSpark Foundation co-sponsored the 2nd Annual Montgomery County Emergency Food System Conference.
Janet Poppendieck, PhD, sociologist and author of Sweet Charity? delivered the keynote, providing an overview of the history and evolution of emergency food. Eighty-five attendees from food pantries, soup kitchens, county government, policy advocates, funders,
Philabundance and others working in the emergency food system gained inspiration from Dr. Poppendieck’s work and began to envision a better system to serve those experiencing food insecurity in the county.
