Moncto 30% Project

Montco 30% successfully organized several neighborhood canvasses to champion the zoning approval of a Norristown supportive housing proposal. Grant funding was directed to compensate people to do the important work of going door-to-door in the community and making the case directly to residents. A similar need for a grassroots campaign in Upper Gwynedd Township has emerged in response to the final land development approval of the Cornerstone at Pennbrook, a LIHTC community of approximately 60 attached homes. Funding will support paid canvassers, materials, and general operating.

Montco 30% Project strategically mobilized community and led an advocacy campaign in support of Montgomery County’s proposal to open short-term housing for single adults in Norristown. The campaign helped community members understand how this space would serve a vital role in addressing the growing encampment issue in the area. The campaign motto “Let’s build a stronger, safer community together” shared out facts of the venture and dispelled misinformation to combat NIMBYism.

Many municipal leaders lack the tools, messaging, and support to navigate difficult conversations with their constituents related to housing affordability and homelessness. Sentiments that discourage the construction of affordable housing or the creation of spaces for wraparound services and shelters remain obstacles that must be confronted and ultimately changed to the greatest extent possible.

Our approach at Montco 30% Project includes: Engage directly with members of the community to boost their level of engagement around housing challenges. Meet with local elected officials to identify and support allies Engage with members of the media on a regular basis through op-eds, press conferences, events, and interviews.
