Salvation Army Norristown opens new choice food pantry with HealthSpark grant

The Salvation Army of Norristown today held a special grand opening celebration for their newly renovated choice food pantry. HealthSpark Foundation President and CEO Russ Johnson and Senior Program Officer Tamela Luce were on hand for the festivities.

Chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners Val Arkoosh talked about the prevalence of hunger in Montgomery County, noting that about 80,000 county residents are not getting enough to eat. More than 14% of the county's children are included in that number.

Ms. Luce also gave remarks congratulating the Salvation Army and noted her initial skepticism that the organization could transform its 600 square foot pantry into a choice model, one that provides a more grocery store like experience for pantry consumers.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held followed by tours of the pantry.
