"The thing I was attracted to the most about HealthSpark Foundation was its commitment to systemic change."
"A big change that I have seen over the years is the critical importance of advocacy. Advocacy had not really been on my radar screen. Advocacy is learning, being educated about issues, building awareness of those issues, and then taking action."

In June of 2026, HealthSpark sat down with outgoing board member John Kepner.
As a result of his nine years of dedicated service John became a keeper of HealthSpark knowledge and held invaluable historical perspectives that helped to thoughtfully shape and guide the foundation with courage, integrity, and wisdom.
In this short interview John reflects on his board service, the shifts and changes he witnessed over time, and the constant core values that guide HealthSpark's commitment to advancing community health and equity.
We are deeply grateful for John's contributions to HealthSpark and Montgomery County.
