Background on the Blueprint for a Better Safety Net

The Blueprint for a Better Safety Net is the result of a months-long, community-driven process to understand how the safety net system in Montgomery County has been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. Nearly 200 community partners have now shared their experiences and contributed their insights. Together with HealthSpark, they have used those insights to craft a clear vision and plan for rebuilding a stronger, more resilient, and more just social safety net.

HealthSpark Foundation is grateful for their insights and for all the work of direct service providers in Montgomery County – they exemplify the strength and creativity of our community.

This fall's Request for Proposals reflects the priorities identified by the Montgomery County service providers, civic associations, faith groups, government leaders, and others who have created this Blueprint. HealthSpark Foundation recognizes that the challenges presented by COVID-19 persist, and as the community continues to respond to the immediacy of this time, our partners voiced a desire to seize this moment as an opportunity for transformative change.

Beyond the Innovation Lab, HealthSpark will advance work on this plan through our other non-grantmaking philanthropic strategies and continue to encourage others to align their work with the Blueprint. To join these efforts or learn more, please email info@healthspark.org.
