Announcing the 2025 Dr. Frank E. Boston Black Justice Fund and Justice Fund Award Recipients

In April, we launched the fourth round of our Dr. Frank E. Boston Black Justice Fund (BJF), which invests in emerging Black leaders in Montgomery County, supports positive storytelling of Black communities across the County, and builds community infrastructure and power in Black communities to advance justice and liberation for all County residents.
Building out our commitment to justice and liberation for all, and building on lessons learned from the BJF, we launched a sister fund - the Justice Fund - which extends our dedicated support to communities and organizations that have also experienced historical and ongoing challenges in accessing power, with the same investment values of the BJF.
Since the launch of the BJF in 2021, we’ve grounded our grantmaking in shared power and community wisdom. A cornerstone of this commitment is our Community Action Team (CAT), a participatory grantmaking group made up of local community leaders. This team plays a vital role in shaping funding decisions, ensuring our grantmaking reflects local priorities and the collective vision of those most impacted. By reviewing all BJF and Justice Fund applications this year, the CAT helped create deeper alignment across our grantmaking.
The 2025 CAT team members were:
- Akilah Williams – Member Since 2023
- Brandon Stiff – Founding Member of the Community Action Team
- Carla Clanagan – Member Since 2023
- Ella Griggs – Member Since 2023
- Mark Jones – Founding Member of the Community Action Team
- Pastor Michael Stitt – Member Since 2023
- Quan King - Member Since 2023
- Tyrone Manning – Member of the Community Action Team in 2022 and 2025
This year marks a record for the Black Justice Fund (BJF), with $293,000 awarded across 16 organizations- our highest number of BJF grantees to date. These investments continue to build upon power-building, leadership development, and positive storytelling.
In addition, the Justice Fund awarded $90,000 to our inaugural cohort of five grantees, officially launching this new chapter of justice-focused grantmaking.
